Breast fat grafting in Melbourne
Breast fat grafting uses a person’s own fat to make selected changes to breast volume or contour. Breast-surgery assessment may consider its use for modest volume change, asymmetry and contour concerns after previous surgery.
Consultation and suitability
Assessment considers the breast shape, skin envelope, the amount of suitable donor fat and the size of change being sought. Breast history and previous imaging or surgery are relevant. Fat grafting and implants offer different options and involve different limitations.
An individual consultation considers your concerns, medical history, previous treatment and the trade-offs of surgery. Bring relevant reports and a list of medicines and supplements. Do not stop prescribed medicines without advice from your treating team.
Options and the operation
Fat is collected by liposuction from a donor area, processed and injected into the breast in small amounts. Treatment may involve general anaesthesia. More than one session may be required, and the donor areas also need to be included in the treatment plan.
Recovery and return to activity
Both the breast and donor sites need time to recover. Bruising, swelling and discomfort can affect different areas. Garment advice and return to activity should be specific to the sites treated. The early appearance does not establish the lasting volume.
Your return to work, driving and exercise depends on the extent of treatment, the demands of your activities and how healing progresses. Follow the instructions given for your own operation. Individual suitability, recovery and outcomes vary.
Scars, risks and limitations
Small access incisions leave scars at the donor and injection sites. Fat grafting cannot promise a particular cup size or replace every type of breast reshaping.
Risks include infection, fat necrosis, cysts and calcification. Not all transferred fat remains, so retained volume can be uncertain and further treatment may be considered. The liposuction donor areas have their own risks, including irregular contours and altered sensation.
This is an overview rather than a complete consent discussion. Surgery cannot promise a particular appearance or complete symmetry, and further treatment may sometimes be needed.
